When Britt Payne discovered she was pregnant, she thought “everything would fall into place.” The opposite occurred. “I want the whole package,” the man said, “and you are not it.” Britt questioned everything. “Would I bring this little spirit into the world, knowing that its father would likely dip in and out, a sentence of a lifetime of heartache? Or would I have an abortion and set the spirit free? ” No easy answers, but in choosing to terminate her pregnancy, Britt ventured onto a path of self-love where she realized that she actually is the whole package.

Fired, rejected by a sexy neighbor, and then physically assaulted, he was “bleeding like a 1970s pro-wrestler!” That night, however, everything changed. Spotting the girl of his dreams, Jacob boldly asked, “Are you a single lady by chance?” Indeed she was, and today, she’s his wife!

Young love is frequently awkward, and most of us just bumble through it as best we can. Next month, veteran storyteller Haven Abedin will take the stage to talk about a failed early romance with Joe, who went on to become a life-long friend. 

Haven Abedin grew up in Dallas, watching Dick Van Dyke Show reruns and exploring the creek across from her house. Now, she teaches English at Brookhaven College. She’s happiest reading in bed after a fun night out with friends, and watching movies with her husband and two pups.
