Our Eyes Are Fixed On: Stan Cobb
Stan Cobb’s favorite road is the one he’s never been down before. Roads like these have taken him to a small town out in the country to open his first dental practice, and back to the big city to begin sharing his wisdom with others. Next month, he’ll take the Oral Fixation stage in “Pulling Teeth,” to share some of those pearls of wisdom with you.
Stan Cobb is a dentist, writer, speaker, artist, teacher, cowboy and minister. Stan started his speaking career as “The Cowboy Dentist from Spearman, Texas.” The Director of Ethics Education at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Cobb is also the Dallas Director of The Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
What would you name the autobiography of your life? Off the Range.
What other story did you consider submitting to Oral Fixation and why? As I looked at the past and future topics I honestly thought, “I have stories for all of these,” because I write something every day.
What is your favorite smell? A pinion wood fire and sage.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? Charles Russell, the western artist. He was present at the opening of the cattle drives and painted his stories. I’d like to hear the stories behind each painting.
Share anything fun, silly, or unique about yourself. When I was a kid we had a conduct section on our report card. Two things were always checked — Talks Too Much and Acts Without Thinking.
Sneak peek: “I loved galloping across the wide open prairie with cowboys and feeling one with the universe, knowing I was in a transcendent moment. Every evening I watched the sunset knowing that folks in the city had to go to a museum to see the art I saw from my back porch.”
