Our Eyes Are Fixed On: Megan Mayo
Sometimes when everything feels like it’s going wrong, you might actually be making memories you’ll grow to cherish later. Later this month, Megan Mayo will take the Oral Fixation stage in “Icing on the Cake” to share fond memories of an especially disastrous birthday.
Megan Mayo is a Texan with Illinois roots. She lives in the Northern suburbs with her high school sweetheart and precocious toddler. All she needs to be happy is good barbecue and better friends. She’s a corporate stooge by day, a humorist by night and goofy all the time.
What would you name the autobiography of your life? Don’t Let The Muggles Get You Down. I’m magical gosh darn it!
What’s your favorite part about Oral Fixation? How open and vulnerable the storyteller is on stage. I think it helps us all realize that we all struggle with similar trials and tribulations, and connects us to each other.
What’s the weirdest compliment you’ve ever received? From a co-worker; “We’re like a family, and you’re the weird cousin.”
What’s your favorite word? Please use it in a sentence Tuile. Every time I hear the word, I can see it in my mind’s eye, and it’s always pink, sparkly, and in cursive. The dessert came with a berries and a milk chocolate tuile on top.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanted to be a marine biologist, like every privileged white girl in East Plano. I’m actually shocked there’s not an overage of marine biologists in the world.
Name one thing you miss about being a kid? Reading Young Adult books in public without getting weird looks.
Sneak peak: “’Can we just order, eat, and go home,’ I muttered. What was the point, I thought, feeling defeated. But in that moment, Steven reminded me of why I married him. ‘Sure,’ he said, ‘But first, can we look at this cake? I’ve been waiting all day!’”
