Our Eyes Are Fixed On: Linda Thomas
She usually introduces herself as a 6-foot-tall Wonder Woman, and she recently wrote a reference book on color, motivated by the fact that she is colorblind. Next month, Linda Thomas makes her Oral Fixation debut in “Train Wreck.”
Linda Thomas lives in Lake Dallas, a little time warp just off I-35. She and her husband have a unique house that used to be a restaurant on a street that used to be a 15-cabin fishing resort, with their rescue dog, Victor, and cat, Coco Chanel.
What would you name the autobiography of your life? Life in Color.
How did you hear about Oral Fixation? I met Nicole after she spoke at TEDxSMU and she told me about it.
What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? My friend Christy Cherrett asked me when I would submit one of the stories she’s heard over time, and I felt ready.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? Elsa Schiaparelli, she was a great fashion designer and she had an incredibly open heart for such a rough start in life.
What do you want to be when you grow up? Someone who remains curious about what life has to offer and to be a witty and humorous writer
What is your favorite smell? Coconut.
What do you miss most about being a kid? I miss listening to my dad tell us his true stories as a young man and his family history stories when we would drive to see my grandparents.
What is the best book you’ve read in the last decade and why would you recommend it? Anything by Malcolm Gladwell. He always looks at his subjects from an angle I have never heard before and does the research to make his points valid. He is a true thought leader to me.
Sneak peek: “I am looking for change on the ground. Every time I gather 50 cents, I can buy a jar of baby food for 17 cents, a loaf of white bread for 19 cents, and I’ve found a place that sells single eggs for 5 cents each. It takes about an hour to find enough change and buy this combination of items, but I seem to have a system where I can get this done every one, two, or three days.”
