Our Eyes Are Fixed On: Karen Soltero
Karen Soltero, writer and fitness studio owner, will return to the Oral Fixation stage for “Silver Lining!”
Karen is currently writing a memoir on sibling loss, Me Without You. She pens a blog and has had the honor of attending the Breadloaf Writer’s Conference at Middlebury. Karen also likes to work out and conveniently co-owns Crowbar Cardio, an awesome fitness studio just off lower Greenville Ave.
What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? As a non-fiction writer I’m motivated by good storytelling of tales that happen to be true. The personal essay is such a raw and real way to share something with other people and I love the idea of combining that with the aspect of performance.
How did you hear about Oral Fixation? I’ve known the lovely Nicole since she was in middle school and was in a theater group with my younger sister. We randomly reconnected many years later when we both lived in LA and again when we both moved back to Dallas. It’s all kind of serendipitous, which is a word I happen to love.
What is your favorite smell? Tuberose. Not the prettiest flower, but they smell like Hawaii.
Name one thing you miss about being a kid. How tall the planters at Northpark seemed to be and how much fun it was to take of your shoes and run up and slide down them in your socks. As an adult, if you run around the mall in just socks, it’s a little weird.
Sneak Peek: “When I went under for the first time, I didn’t know if I would wake up with a leg or not. I didn’t know if I would wake up at all.”
