Meet “Stick Together” Storyteller Dannie M. Olguin
In a searing story of family dysfunction and sibling love, author Dannie M. Olguin revisits a haunting past. On Valentine’s Day evening, come learn about her #StickTogether journey to forgiveness and healing.
Dannie M. Olguin is an introverted writer who peoples through busy days by acting like an extroverted character. When she’s isn’t selling and eating tacos, you can find her hanging with her husband and son, or banging her head against the keyboard while her dog and cat cuddle and silently judge her.
How did you hear about Oral Fixation? My friend, Amanda England, brought me to “Close To Home.”
What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but a rotten voice in my head always convinced me I’d fail and that I don’t have the stories or talent. This year, I decided to say YES to the things that scare me spitless.
If you could be any animal what would you be? A wolf. In my twenties, I had shirts and posters of wolves, journals with wolves on the cover, and a throw blanket with a wolf on it. Years later, I learned my Myers-Briggs personality type is INFJ, and the animal most like INFJs is the wolf. Fierce, loyal, strong, and independent. I’m good with that. 🐺
What is your favorite quote? “What you fear, if you turn toward it, will give your writing teeth.” ~ Natalie Goldberg
If reincarnated as an ice cream flavor, what would you be? Something revolting like Rancid Leftovers, that way nobody would ever eat me and I’d be immortal. Okay, so no desire to be immortal, but I love the idea of people basically leaving me alone, so my answer stands.
What is your favorite sound? Least favorite? Favorite: wind blowing through treetops. Least favorite: Chewing and crunching noises make me stabby.
What’s your favorite word? “Yes.” As in “Yes, I will sign up for the 5k; yes, I will register for the writing competition; yes, I will have a brownie and a glass of Ciroc 🍷 while I binge watch The Great British Baking Show.”
What is the most embarrassing mistake you’ve ever made? I’m a sensitive introvert. I’m still obsessing over that one time, twenty years ago, when I called a co-worker Steve instead of Nick. They don’t even sound the same! 😳
Share anything fun, silly, or unique about yourself. I once stole a watch off a dead man and gave it to my mother.
Sneak Peek: “I don’t know for sure what Jer and I were doing in the woods when we heard the truck’s horn honking—the signal for us to come back. Only this time, it wasn’t a couple of short, friendly beeps. It was a terrifying, mournful blare that lasted thirty seconds or a lifetime.
