Meet “Jump Off A Cliff” Storyteller Rachel McEnany

When Rachel McEnany was a child, she dreamt of flying. At the same time, her waking life was often filled with fear. On Friday night, November 3, Rachel will step onto the Oral Fixation stage and take us along on her transformation from anxious little girl to fearless woman who loves jumping out of planes, a lot.

Rachel McEnany has an insatiable curiosity about the world at large. She grew up in the hills of Arkansas and would almost always rather be hiking. She loves skydiving, her puppies, and her husband, Paul, not necessarily in that order. Her credo is, “Be brave and be kind.”

Fixated Facts:

What would you name the autobiography of your life? I’m Just Happy to be Here.

What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? Doing something that terrifies me.

What is your favorite smell? A field of freshly-cut hay.

What’s your favorite word? Please use it in a sentence. Moxie. “It takes moxie to believe the world can be made a better place.”

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? Eleanor Roosevelt. She was courageous, outspoken, and kind to everyone.

Who is your favorite cartoon character and why? Hammy the Squirrel. Because I can identify with him.

What is the most embarrassing mistake you’ve ever made? It’s hard to pick just one. I embarrass myself on a daily basis. It’s important to not take yourself too seriously. 😉

What is the best book you’ve read in the last decade and why would you recommend it? Fiction: The Goldfinch. Nonfiction: Love Warrior. Both are about having the courage to be broken.

Share anything fun, silly, or unique about yourself. I was paddled A LOT as a child and always had an “F” in conduct.

Sneak Peek: “Minutes after I reached the ground, a high-pitched, excited holler that I clearly recognized pierced the air: ‘OH MY GOSH!’ I looked up to see my mom. She was 2000 feet above me—and I could still hear her. She was hooked too.”

Don’t miss Rachel on the Oral Fixation stage on Friday, November 3!
