Meet “Jump Off A Cliff” Storyteller Dawynn Edwards
After a childhood of body shaming that included awkward P.E. and a girdle, Dawynn Edwards embraced herself and stayed active. Having already conquered tap dancing and hula hooping, she decided to raise the stakes. On November 3, she’ll take the Oral Fixation stage in “Jump Off A Cliff” and share some momentous moments from Rock Climbing 101.
Dawynn Edwards sporadically writes poetry and short stories when not maintaining the facade of a gainfully employed adult. She hopes to share her musings with a larger audience while traveling the world. Dawynn lives with her partner in Bedford, Texas, where they enjoy planning adventures and exploring local entertainment.
What would you name the autobiography of your life? What Had Happened Was . . .
What’s your favorite part about Oral Fixation? Common folk stepping out of their everyday lives to be heard and seen, and the receptive audience.
What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? It’s a dream of mine to read my work. I was so impressed by the first show I attended, I decided to submit at the first opportunity.
Name one thing you miss about being a kid. The all-consuming excitement in anticipation of Christmas or my birthday.
What is the best book you’ve read in the last decade and why would you recommend it? The MaddAddam series by Margaret Atwood. Brilliant ideas and concepts to chew on. I can easily imagine a not so distant future like the one she envisioned.
Share anything fun, silly, or unique about yourself. It grosses me out to walk barefoot on anything but my own bathmat and the beach. I wish I could harmonize. If stranded on a desert island, I’d need Vaseline, and shoes, of course.
Sneak peak: “Yes, I have posed nude on a beach with only a red cape that billowed out behind me in the surf spray. Why? Because it was the most daring act of body acceptance I could think of at the moment.”
