Meet “Close To Home” Storyteller Wegs Wegerbauer
When Wegs Wegerbauer received an unexpected letter in 1993, dominoes tumbled all the way to another continent. On Tuesday, December 19, come join Wegs on his globe-trotting adventure of self-discovery and finding home.
Wegs, like “eggs” with a w, has been telling stories most of his life. Early on, most of these tales were rejected by the likes of his parents, teachers, and the local police. However, thanks to their constructive criticism, today, Wegs tells stories professionally for GSD&M, an ad agency in Austin.
What is your favorite board game? As the Minister of Useless Information, I like Trivial Pursuit.
What is your favorite destination? Putzleinsdorf, Austria. Come see me tell my story, and you’ll know why.
What is a favorite quote? “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes” – Marcel Proust
If reincarnated as an ice cream flavor, what would you be? Mint Chocolate Chip. If you have to ask why, you wouldn’t understand.
What’s your favorite word? Jabberwocky. Politicians use jabberwocky to sound like they’re making a real point.
What is your favorite thing to eat in Dallas? The Mille Feuille cream pastry at Bullion by Dessert Chef Richie, aka “Sugar Daddy.”
What is the most embarrassing mistake you’ve ever made? Sticking a spoon in an electrical outlet when I was 5. My mom has kept the gnarled utensil almost 50 years to remind me that I’m not as smart as I think.
Share anything fun, silly, or unique about yourself. I’ve won not one, but two Elvis impersonation contests.
Sneak Peek: “The letter read, ‘You will sure be surprised to receive a letter from Europe from a foreign. I made a computer-research for the name Wegerbauer in the U.S. telephone directories. I found 17 entries. You are one of them.'”
