<h4><span style="color: #ff9900;">If you haven&#8217;t seen the giant poster featuring one of the many faces of <a href="http://www.cindysherman.com"><span style="color: #ff9900;">Cindy Sherman</span></a> on the front of the Dallas Museum of Art or you&#8217;ve somehow missed the many ads plastered all over town, then learn about this gem that is visiting Dallas now, people! The DMA is featuring <a href="http://www.dm-art.org/View/FutureExhibitions/dma_442996"><span style="color: #ff9900;">an exhibit</span></a> by renowned photographer Cindy Sherman. <span id="more-3496"></span></span></h4>
<p>Most photographers hide behind the camera; Sherman faces it countless times, as each of her works is a kind of self-portrait. Over the years she has donned a wide range of personas and disguises, bringing us works that are reflective of modern culture.</p>
<p>We are so taken with the Sherman exhibit. She is a master at transforming herself into everything from a circus clown to a stereotypical 1960s female role in a European art-house film to a clergyman from an old masterwork. The exhibit was teeming with stories; each piece possesses and inspires them.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/468/switcheroo">LISTEN to the first part of this episode</a> from This American Life that discusses a phenomenon associated with the Sherman exhibit.</p>
<p>And, GO <a href="http://www.dma.org/Visit/PlanYourVisit/index.htm">see Cindy Sherman&#8217;s work</a> before it disappears on June 9th!</p>

<h3><span style="color: #00ccff;">8 show in 8 months and every single one sold out!  Dallas, we hear you.  You want to share in the very best in true, personal storytelling and Oral Fixation is here to provide the platform.  </span></h3>
<h4><span style="color: #ff9900;">Here&#8217;s a recap of how we brought it all home &#8220;Old School&#8221; style:</span></h4>
<p><span id="more-3424"></span></p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile aligncenter thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-26.jpg" class="fancybox" title="&#8220;One day, a teacher hurled the blackboard eraser at a recalcitrant boy and knocked him out cold.  No worries- off to Nurse to slap him awake again and back to class.&#8221;"><img alt="&#8220;One day, a teacher hurled the blackboard eraser at a recalcitrant boy and knocked him out cold.  No worries- off to Nurse to slap him awake again and back to class.&#8221;" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-26.jpg" class="wp-image-3451" /></a><figcaption>&#8220;One day, a teacher hurled the blackboard eraser at a recalcitrant boy and knocked him out cold.  No worries- off to Nurse to slap him awake again and back to class.&#8221;</figcaption></figure>
<p>We were stupefied by the old school ways of Jonathan Schlesinger&#8217;s English boarding school education in the late 1950s.</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile aligncenter thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-25.jpg" class="fancybox" title="&#8220;One day my English professor was murdered in the same parking structure I parked in every day, where I had to chain my Dodge Dart&#8217;s hood to prevent its battery from being stolen, where I stood waiting for Triple A one freezing winter night waving off pimps driving up to proposition me.&#8221;"><img alt="&#8220;One day my English professor was murdered in the same parking structure I parked in every day, where I had to chain my Dodge Dart&#8217;s hood to prevent its battery from being stolen, where I stood waiting for Triple A one freezing winter night waving off pimps driving up to proposition me.&#8221;" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-25.jpg" class="wp-image-3450" /></a><figcaption>&#8220;One day my English professor was murdered in the same parking structure I parked in every day, where I had to chain my Dodge Dart&#8217;s hood to prevent its battery from being stolen, where I stood waiting for Triple A one freezing winter night waving off pimps driving up to proposition me.&#8221;</figcaption></figure>
<p>We gripped our seats as Renee Rossi told us about the days of forced desegregation in Detroit.</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile aligncenter thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-31.jpg" class="fancybox" title="&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know how to read or write until I was ten years old. Education wasn&#8217;t a priority for girls in Bangladesh.&#8221;"><img alt="&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know how to read or write until I was ten years old. Education wasn&#8217;t a priority for girls in Bangladesh.&#8221;" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-31.jpg" class="wp-image-3456" /></a><figcaption>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t know how to read or write until I was ten years old. Education wasn&#8217;t a priority for girls in Bangladesh.&#8221;</figcaption></figure>
<p>We wiped tears from our eyes as Shama Shams shared the brave story of her childhood move from Bangladesh to Memphis, Tennessee.</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile aligncenter thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-32.jpg" class="fancybox" title="&#8220;As she walked over a huge circle of kids formed around us, 75 strong. It was like some ABC After School Special nightmare.&#8221;"><img alt="&#8220;As she walked over a huge circle of kids formed around us, 75 strong. It was like some ABC After School Special nightmare.&#8221;</figcaption></figure>
<p>We guffawed as we heard about a middle school bet made by Old 97&#8242;s guitarist, Ken Bethea.</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile  thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-44.jpg" class="fancybox" title=""><img alt="" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-44.jpg" class="wp-image-3469" /></a></figure>
<p>Afterwards, the air was electric; people mixed, mingled and excitedly shared their favorite moments of the evening and of the season!</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile  thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-41.jpg" class="fancybox" title=""><img alt="" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-41.jpg" class="wp-image-3466" /></a></figure>
<p>And we enjoyed some rockin&#8217; new music from our sponsor, <a title="Scion Audio / Visual" href="http://scionav.com" target="_blank">Scion</a>!</p>
<figure class="full-width-mobile  thin" style="width: 300px;"><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-7.jpg" class="fancybox" title=""><img alt="" src="http://oralfixationshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/OF_OLDSCHOOL-7.jpg" class="wp-image-3432" /></a></figure>
<p>We&#8217;d call it a win! And while we are sad to see the end of season 2, we are thrilled to bring you a brand-new Season 3 this Fall!   So, happy summer, fixation followers!  The live shows will return in September starting with the &#8220;Best of Season 2&#8243;!</p>

<h3><span style="color: #ff9900;">The jovial Mr. Jonathan Schlesinger will be unraveling a tale about growing up at a prep school in England for our last show of Season 2!</span></h3>
<h5><span style="color: #00ccff;">Jonathan was born in New York City. He spent the first seven years of his life in South Africa. He went to school in England and attended College in the USA. He lives near White Rock Lake in Dallas with his wife, 2 dogs, 3 cats and 5 chickens.<span id="more-3400"></span></span></h5>
<p><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Fixated Facts:</strong> </span></p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong>Title of your autobiography (if you had one)- </strong>“What was I thinking?”</p>
<p><strong>If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who? </strong>My paternal Grandfather whom I never really knew.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite cartoon character- </strong>Dilbert – always right.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite smell- </strong>Honeysuckle.</p>
<p><strong>What you want to be when you grow up- </strong>Wise.</p>
<p><strong>Most embarrassing moment- </strong>Asking without knowing who they were “Do you come to the ballet often?” to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Tallchief">Maria Tallchief</a> and<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Balanchine"> George Balanchine </a>-whilst sitting at a charity function table in the sixties.</p>
<p><strong>Best book you&#8217;ve read in the last decade- </strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tai-Pan-James-Clavell/dp/0440184622">Taipan</a> by James Clavell. Old School.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff9900;">Sneak Peek:</span> </strong>&#8220;The school was in a beautiful english country estate with 100s of acres and a lake. If you could not swim you had to swim in the duck pool, naked. When you passed your swimming test you could then swim in the lake. Not being naked was a great incentive to learn to swim. Better than being thrown in.&#8221;</p>

<div dir="ltr">
<p><a href="http://oralfixationshow.com/portfolio-item/old-school/">Don&#8217;t miss Jonathan&#8217;s hilarious and heartfelt story tomorrow, May 14th at the MAC! </a></p>

<h3><span style="color: #ff9900;">The hilarious Darek Tatum hits the Oral Fixation stage to tell us about a special church visit in college that has stayed with him ever since!  </span></h3>
<h5><span style="color: #00ccff;">By day Darek Tatum is a web designer for Half Price Books and a father of identical twin girls. </span><span style="color: #00ccff;">By not day, he’s doing improv at Dallas Comedy House, being generally annoying on Twitter, and still a father to identical twin girls.<br />
<span id="more-3387"></span></span></h5>
<p><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Fixated Facts:</strong> </span></p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong>If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who? </strong>I’d choose to meet my childhood hero Andy Kaufman and definitively determine whether he is living or dead. Sure it’s been 30 years since he “died of lung cancer,” but what an amazing hoax that would be.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite Dallas hangout- </strong><a href="http://dallascomedyhouse.com">Dallas Comedy House </a>is easily my favorite Dallas hangout. I’ve been training and doing improv there for over 3 years and have met some of the bestest people I’ve ever met. At DCH, I’ve learned a little about life and a lot about myself. Also the drinks are pretty cheap.<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>What you want to be when you grow up- </strong>Not bound by the laws of gravity.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite cartoon character- </strong>Garfield. A cat that eats lasagna?! Whaaaaaaaat?!</p>
<p><strong>What do you miss about being a kid?-</strong> I miss being able to hold a plunger and immediately be whisked away to the Super Mario Bros.’ Mushroom Kingdom. Now when I hold a plunger, I’m not whisked away to the Mushroom Kingdom. Not even a tiny bit.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff9900;">Sneak Peek:</span> </strong>&#8220;Beyond that, I’ve never been a man of ambition. College? Whatever. Career? I can coast on charm, right?  When it came time to choose my alma mater, I did what any smart person would do. I decided to hang out with my best friends for four more years. I wasn’t worried. The future would take care of itself.&#8221;</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Fixated Facts:</strong></span></p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong>Name of your autobiography (if you had one)- </strong>“He Done His Damndest”</p>
<p><strong>What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation? </strong>I attended the 4/23 Oral Fix performance and thought, “Hell, I can do that.”</p>
<p><strong>If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who? </strong>William Shakespeare, to find out if he talked like that. My maternal great-grandfather, to ask him why he smirked in my grandparents’ wedding photos.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite smell- </strong>The inside of a bicycle shop.<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spikenard"><br />
</a></p>
<p><strong>What you want to be when you grow up- </strong>A writer of good fiction.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite cartoon character- </strong>Mr. Natural, who, when he didn’t get paid for some spiritual counseling, said, “I don’t mean to get worked up over gross material things, but this rankles my ass.”</p>
<p><strong>Best book you&#8217;ve read in the last decade- </strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Hunger-Barry-Unsworth/dp/0393311147">Sacred Hunger</a> by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Unsworth">Barry Unsworth</a> A novel set in 18th-century England, Africa, and Florida. Densely plotted and written. Each paragraph is a gorgeous little universe of description and explication. Penetrating view into the world of the slave and the slaver.  Exhilarating and heartbreaking. Found myself moving my lips as I read to savor the writing.</p>
<p><strong>What do you miss about being a kid?-</strong> Playing barefoot outdoors all day and urinating wherever I want (!)<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Anything else?- </strong>Sometimes I can&#8217;t remember the names of the members of my extended family.</p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff9900;">Sneak Peek:</span> </strong>&#8220;This constellation of manners, the proper way of doing things, governed every human interaction and was drummed into my sister and me. I considered most of it to be Old School frippery. No, my mother insisted, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do everything.&#8221;</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>Fixated Facts:</strong> </span></p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong>What inspired you to participate in Oral Fixation?- </strong>I&#8217;ve always been a storyteller and thought it would be fun to do it for strangers.</p>
<p><strong>Name of your autobiography (if you had one)- </strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Fretting</span></p>

<p><strong>Favorite smell-</strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimeograph">Mimeograph</a>. Alas, it&#8217;s gone forever.</p>
<p><strong>One thing you miss about being a kid- </strong>Baseball.</p>
<p><strong>Favorite cartoon character- </strong>Charlie Brown&#8211;I started reading Peanuts in 3rd grade and never stopped. I love CB because he has to work for everything he gets.</p>

You don&#8217;t have to enjoy sports books to find the story of a podunk orphanage that becomes a football powerhouse riveting. 59 of its 62 reviews on Amazon give it 4 or 5 stars.</div>

<div><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Word-Freak-Heartbreak-Competitive-ScrabblePlayers/dp/0142002267"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Wordfreak</span> </a>by Stephan Fatsis. Non-fiction. A hack Scrabble player decides to get real and start playing Scrabble on the hard core national scene. I loved meeting the bizarre scrabble crowd. I can be an obsessive hobbyist but it&#8217;s good to know there are others who are much, much worse. 106 of 117 reviews give it 4 or 5 stars.</div>
<p><strong>Anything else?-</strong> I own a few hundred board games. None of them are Monopoly</p>
<div>
<div dir="ltr">
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff9900;">Sneak Peek:</span> </strong>&#8220;In late July, we lost a 2-1 heart breaker to Palestine in the state playoffs, leaving me with 4 weeks with not a thing to do.
